23 Apr 2024 Class Video – Bounty Land. Bounty Lands were used from before the Revolutionary War up until 1858 to reward military service and stimulate enlistment. Those records can confirm military service and even locate ancestors during and after hostilities. This class gives the history of the subject, what records are available, and where to find them. 12 Apr 2024 Class Video – Ancestry Family Trees Part 1. Publishing your family tree on Ancestry.com can be a great way to share your research with others, as well as to provide a backup for your work. This presentation covers how to start a family tree on Ancestry.com, and how to maintain it. 10 Apr 2024 Class Video – Using Historical Literature. Historical literature, both fiction and non-fiction, can help us to better understand the world in which our ancestors lived and the events that shaped their lives. This presentation looks at how to use historical literature to flesh out the stories of our ancestors and provides examples to show what can be learned. 04 April 2024 Class Video – The Women of 1620. Eighteen women (along with 34 children) boarded the Mayflower in 1620.  This is the heart-wrenching tale of the only women who survived to the first Thanksgiving.  Overshadowed by the men you all know, this true-life drama shines light on the four strong women who endured hardships and tragedy to give birth to a new nation! 26 Mar 2024 Class Video – WorldCat and ArchiveGridA treasure trove of genealogical material is available in books, manuscripts, and other print resources. However, much of this material is scattered in libraries and archives throughout the country. WorldCat and ArchiveGrid are online resources that allow you to search many of these repositories to identify and locate materials on the families and topics you are researching. 22 Mar 2024 Class Video – Men Who Guarded Washington. George Washington took command of the first U.S. Army to protect our new country. Then he trained some of his elite continental soldiers to protect him. Learn the story of the four groups that guarded our future president, the different units he needed and why, and how they protected him to win the war. 21 Mar 2024 Class video – Clearwater Colored Cemetery Descendancy Project. A team of anthropologists in Clearwater, FL, have discovered graves that were supposed to have been moved but were not and were completely erased and built over. The Clearwater Colored Cemeteries Society (3C Society) under the auspices of Pinellas Genealogy Society is working to recognize the contributions of those interred at “erased colored cemeteries,” currently lost to the memory of time. The 3C Society aims to find those in the two underfunded, marginalized cemeteries and make the history known of those interred there. Like the national 10 Million Names project, we are inviting volunteers to help amplify the voices of local people long forgotten, connect people seeking answers to family history questions, and expand access to the data. PGS HISTORY VIDEOS:
Five program meetings during 2022 were dedicated to celebrating the 50th anniversary of PGS. The videos collected here are recordings of each of those five meetings They will be available on the public as well as member pages of our website for the foreseeable future. Use these videos to gain an appreciation of the breadth and depth of the Society’s activities over the past fifty years.
